The problem with most online file tools
Merging a PDF, converting a spreadsheet, or removing an image background online has almost always meant uploading your file to a server you don't control, waiting for it to process, then downloading the result. For a public presentation deck, that's a minor inconvenience. For a signed contract, a medical record, or a customer list, it's a real exposure — every upload is a copy of your data sitting somewhere you can't verify.
InstantTools started from a simple technical bet: modern browsers, via WebAssembly, are now fast enough to run the same PDF, image, and data-processing logic that used to require a server — directly on your device. If that's true, the upload step isn't actually necessary anymore for most everyday file tasks.
WebAssembly, not a server
Every tool ships the actual processing engine (pdf-lib, ffmpeg.wasm, qpdf-wasm, and others) compiled to WASM, running in your browser tab.
Nothing to breach
There’s no upload endpoint receiving your files, so there’s no server-side copy of your data that could ever be exposed in a breach.

What's free, and what isn't
Every tool works without creating an account, within daily usage and file-size limits generous enough for occasional or personal use. The Premium plan removes those limits for people using the tools regularly — larger files and unlimited daily tasks.
Where the limits actually are
Running everything locally isn't free of trade-offs, and it's worth being upfront about them: processing speed depends on your own device rather than a data center, and extremely large files are bounded by your browser's available memory. A handful of AI-assisted tools (Formula AI, SQL Query AI, AI Text Detector, AI Transcription) would need a model too large to ship to a browser and would have to proxy through a server — they're currently marked "Coming Soon" and not available yet, until traffic justifies the ongoing API cost of running them.
